Atmospheric tanks are used to store large volumes of liquid at atmospheric or near-atmospheric pressure—safely storing essential energy resources such as crude oil, heavy oil, and gasoline. These tanks can also be used to store carbon-neutral fuels such as e-fuel and SAF, as well as methylcyclohexane (MCH), which is gaining attention as a hydrogen carrier.
Floating Roof Tank
(FRT)
DETAIL
Floating roof tanks are designed with a roof that floats directly on the liquid surface, rising and falling as the stored liquid is received or discharged. A specialized sealing structure between the floating roof and the tank shell minimizes evaporative losses, making these tanks well-suited for large-scale storage of crude oil, naphtha, and similar products. Floating roofs come in both single-deck and double-deck types, with the double-deck design offering enhanced structural strength and buoyancy against external forces, contributing to an even safer tank configuration.
Dome Roof Tank
(DRT)
DETAIL
A dome roof tank features a spherical-shaped roof that provides structural advantages in resisting internal pressure. The roof is supported by radial and circumferential structural framing members. A key feature of this design is the absence of internal columns.
Cone Roof Tank
(CRT)
DETAIL
A cone roof tank is equipped with a conical roof structure supported by internal vertical columns and radial rafters.
Covered Floating Roof Tank (CFRT) DETAIL
Covered floating roof tanks are fixed-roof tanks with internal floating roofs, combining the advantages of both floating and fixed roof designs. This configuration minimizes evaporative losses while preventing rainwater ingress. In some cases, the tank interior is pressurized and sealed with inert gases such as nitrogen, making it a favorable solution when enhanced sealing performance is required.
Tsunami-Resilient Concrete Tank DETAIL
The tsunami-resistant structure tank features a double-layer structure with a prestressed concrete (PC) wall is installed on the outside of the steel tank to withstand tsunami wave forces and collisions with drifting objects. This structure has been patented in Japan as the first of its kind(Patent No. 6592157).
